General Description of Position:

The purpose of the position is to plan, coordinate, implement, supervise and evaluate a variety of year round athletic activities for the County.  The working title of this position will be Athletic Program Coordinator.

Essential Functions of Position:

  • Plans, organizes, supervises and promotes a wide variety of athletic programs and activities for various age groups
  • Arranges league schedules, coordinates locations and assigns personnel to such activities
  • Evaluates, modifies, adds and deletes programs in response to changing needs and interest within the community
  • Hires, trains, assigns, schedules and supervises part time/seasonal staff and volunteers; assigns, reviews and assures that programming standards and requirements are being met
  • Promotes programs and events and uses multiple relevant marketing methods to disseminate information; Contacts media and prepares press releases
  • Works with program participants, volunteers and employees in handling complaints and resolving issues
  • Implements processes to secure, train, lead, provide oversight and evaluate volunteers within the programs in accordance with policies and guidelines
  • Registers participants for various programs and events; Collects fees and completes appropriate forms; Maintains various records of events and programs
  • Purchases and maintains inventory of program and facility equipment and program supply needs
  • Makes recommendations to Department Director for budgets of programs and manages line item expenses within approved budget
  • Leads in the formulation and execution of rules and policies for programs and events
  • Serves as liaison with public and private groups, agencies and committees
  • Prepares regular and specialized reports as required and/or requested.  Maintains necessary databases for programming and events
  • Prepares extensive program related budget requests each year
  • Participates in the preparation of fields and facilities for programs and program related events
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Work Hours/Benefits:

Work hours may vary according to recreational programming schedules and will include some nights and weekend work.

This is a full time position and will include all County benefits such as health, dental, drug, life insurance, retirement benefits through the Local Government Retirement System, 401 (k), vacation and sick leave.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Graduation from a four year college or university with a degree in recreation administration, sports management, physical education or related degree and three (3) years of experience in paid or non-paid athletic programming; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary and Pay Grade:

Salary:  $32,400.17 - $35,640.18  (Expected Hiring Range)                       Grade: 65
