Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina is holding a free job search workshop on Thursday, January 8 from 3–5 pm at the Canton Branch Library. The two-hour workshop will be conducted by Goodwill’s Career Connections Center and will offer attendees basic training on how and where to begin their job search. Instruction will include how to access online skills assessment tools in order to prepare for applying for any position; methods of identifying legitimate job leads and listings to avoid websites designed to attract job seekers with the sole purpose of gathering data; navigating various company employment websites; and means of effectively networking to discover job leads.
“Our Career Connections Center assists with free services like résumé development, job search and online applications assistance, plus free access to computers and high speed Internet,” said Lori Mills, Career Connections Coordinator at Goodwill’s Haywood County Center. “We’re pleased for the opportunity to offer this second workshop at the library in Canton now, as well.”
There will be literature available so everyone will have the opportunity to learn about other free and personalized services Goodwill’s Career Connection Center offers job seekers. Some of these services include resume-writing assistance, skills assessment, career planning and coaching, and assistance with job placement. Goodwill can assist at any point in a person’s career path, including helping to secure employment.
Door prizes and refreshments will be served at the event on January 8. The workshop is free to attend, but registration is required as class space is limited. Register beforehand at the front desk of the library or by calling (828) 648-2924. The Canton Branch of Haywood County Public Library is located at 11 Pennsylvania Avenue, Canton, NC 28716.
