Location: Haywood County Parks and Recreation Department

General Description of Position:

The purpose of the position is to develop, organize, implement and promote a variety of year-round recreational and athletic programs for County citizens of all age groups.  The position works under the general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director and work is reviewed through periodic conferences, reports and results. 

Essential Job Functions:

Plans, coordinates and implements recreation programs and various events to meet the recreational needs of a diverse population.  Promotes department activities through marketing and interpersonal relationships to develop community support and participation; develop and maintain good working relationships with parents, program participants and local school personnel; conduct surveys and evaluate all programs; incorporate new trends and participant needs into programming; conduct feasibility studies on new programming.  Attends community meetings and events as appropriate.  Trains and supervises part-time seasonal staff and volunteers in a variety of programs and supporting roles.  Acts on employee problems; recommends employee discipline and discharge to the Department Director.  Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints of citizens regarding programs, policies and/or personnel.  Monitors the activities and behavior of customers; enforces compliance with policies, procedures and safety rules.  Prepares and manages a budget for programs and is responsible for securing projected revenues from program sponsors and participants.  Performs general administrative/office duties as required, including conducting and attending meetings, preparing reports and correspondence, entering computer data, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, etc. 

Additional Duties:

Include Senior Games, special events, trips and activities for senior adults, adult coed soccer, youth recreation basketball league and development of new programs.

Work Hours: Work hours may vary according to recreational program schedule and will include some nights and weekend work.  This is a full time position and all County benefits such as health, dental, drug, life, retirement, 401(K) , vacation and sick leave are available to this position.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in recreation administration or a closely related field, 2 to 5 years of experience in municipal or county recreation program planning and administration; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the duties of the position.  Current CPR and First Aid certification is required.

Salary and Pay Grade:

Salary-$31, 450.37                                        Pay Grade: 65
